Redesigned Lessons
Over the course of the LTG sessions in year 3, educators redesigned lessons and created artifacts to help them create more culturally diverse and personalized learning environments. Each of the lessons and artifacts below show elements of culturally responsive teaching and personalized learning environments and can be used by you and your schools as models to create your own sustainable classrooms. These were shared with colleagues, implemented in the classroom and reflected upon during our final sessions. We hope you enjoy them.
Here is an outline of our redesign journey:
Educators were asked to dissect examples lessons and provide feedback on each of the culturally responsive principles.
Then they were asked to decide on a topic or a lesson that they knew could benefit from applying the culturally responsive framework.
Once a topic for the lesson was selected, each group walked around the classroom posting questions they wanted to know about the topic using post-its. This could have been a digital activity as well but it was also important for members of the group to have the time to contemplate in a silent setting, individually and with a partner.
After some honest and open conversations about the feedback, educators went to work, carefully working on each of the principles during the remaining sessions and finding ways to incorporate them into their lessons which you can view below.
