Here is an outline of our redesign journey:
Educators were asked to dissect examples lessons and provide feedback on each of the culturally responsive principles.
Then they were asked to decide on a topic or a lesson that they knew could benefit from applying the culturally responsive framework.
Once a topic for the lesson was selected, each group walked around the classroom posting questions they wanted to know about the topic using post-its. This could have been a digital activity as well but it was also important for members of the group to have the time to contemplate in a silent setting, individually and with a partner.
After some honest and open conversations about the feedback, educators went to work, carefully working on each of the principles during the remaining sessions and finding ways to incorporate them into their lessons which you can view below.
