Response to Instruction (RTI)
Response to Instruction (RTI)
Gadsden City utilizes Response To Instruction (RTI) as an instructional framework that promotes a well-integrated system connecting general, gifted, supplemental, and special education services. RTI provides high-quality, standards-based instruction and intervention that is matched to students’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
I am here to help you during this process!

Recipe for Student Success
Students have completed both the STAR and iReady Diagnostic. Teachers have used STAR to progress monitor and identify students for Tier 2 and Tier 3 instruction/intervention. Going forward, we will measure growth of the students using "Growth Monitoring" in the iReady platform. More details on this will come closer to time to progress monitor.
If you have any other questions on iReady, please refer to our iReady tab on the google site.
What do we want ALL students to know?
When planning a lesson, it is important to look at the AL Course of Study for each grade level.
Focus maps and our system pacing guides are available to help with pacing of the lessons/topics for each grading period.
ACAP resources are available for teachers in the tested grades.
Reach out to Mrs. Linman if you need help in planning your lessons for the upcoming topics!
How will we know if they have learned it?
Proficiency scales are a guide for determining the learning targets for each standard. For the student, the proficiency scale is similar to a rubric for what is expected of them during this standard.
LEVEL 3 on a proficiency scale is considered mastery for the standard. When a student is able to consistently and correctly complete all of the skills listed within Level 3 on the proficiency scale, then the student has mastered the standard.
Level 2 will address vocabulary and explain prerequisite skills necessary for a student to master the current standard.
If you need help determining mastery for your students on your next standard please reach out to Mrs. Linman!
What do we do if they have not learned it?
If students need a little bit more help after Tier 1 instruction (whole group), then Tier 2 is their time to shine! Tier 2 is the dedicated time (30 minutes) that a teacher is able to work with the students that are struggling with the content/skill from the new learning target. These groups will be fluid and everchanging. However, you may have someone that seems to always need a little bit more help during this time. Tier 2 should be dedicated to a more targeted skill from the current grade level content or one grade level below (prerequisite skills).
What do we do if they have not learned it and it goes deeper than current skill?
If students still need help after Tier 2 instruction, then the student requires more intensive interventions. Tier 3 interventions are individualized based on data collected in individual problem solving and pinpointed deficiencies. Tier 3 is the dedicated time (30 minutes) that another teacher (not the regular classroom teacher) is able to work with the students that are struggling with the targeted deficiency. Tier 3 is foundational support from two grade levels or more below the current grade level.
