Issue # 1 - September 8, 2023
Many thanks to those parents and guardians who attended last evening's Back to School evening. Your partnership and attendance means a great deal to our faculty. Surrounding your child, at home and at school, with adults who share a vision about the importance of education, character development and leading a purposeful life is the key to OUR success and eventually THEIR success.
“At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child’s success is the positive involvement of parents.” ~ Jane D Hull
I’d like to thank all of the teachers for a long day of teaching and then presenting to you as well.
Mr. Thompson and I will share our 2023 IB Diploma Programme results on Thursday evening, September 14 at 6:30 p.m. We formally invite all Full DP Students, Parents and Guardians and informally anyone who is interested to learn more about our program.
Enjoy the weekend,
Garth
Dear Families,
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year. I am excited to work with your children this year and have really enjoyed these last two weeks with them. I am returning to the UAE after five years of living in Boston, Massachusetts. I have lived in Abu Dhabi for more than 15 years, so it is good to be home.
The hallways have been very busy with the kids trying to find their way. The kids are getting to know the teachers and their schedules and in the next few weeks, they should be professionals. We will send out a newsletter every Friday to update you on the weeks ahead. Each week our Dean of Students and Counselor will fill you in on tidbits on how to be successful. We will also have a class in the spotlight each week, so you can get a chance to see what is happening around this place.
Please take a moment to read this week's newsletter below.
Important Reminders:
Middle School Handbook Parent and Student contract due on Monday. The students received it in Advisory class yesterday.
Have the kids check their powerschool on Sunday night. During the first few weeks of school our schedule changes as we are balancing out our class sizes.
Have a great weekend!
Ms. Williams
Dear Parents,
GEMS American Academy High School Counselors and Administration would like to invite you to Senior Parent Night, Thursday, September 21st, from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. in GAA’s auditorium. This information session will focus on career and university preparation, senior year events, roles and responsibilities, and expectations.
We understand that senior year can be a time of excitement and uncertainty and we want to partner with you to ensure that your child has the best chance of success this year. During this session, we will provide valuable information about the college and university application process, financial aid and scholarship options, ADEK requirements, and tips in preparing for post-secondary education.
This session is open to all grade 12 parents, guardians and grade 12 students. We encourage you and your child to attend as we believe that this information will be beneficial as you navigate this important school year, and ultimately, the future. We value the partnership we have with our families and know that, working together, we will help your child achieve their goals.
We look forward to seeing you at the session and working together to support your child’s future.
Sincerely,
GAA Counselors and Administration
