Greetings GAA Family!
We have just completed our first marking period, which concluded with parent teacher conferences. Although we used a different platform this year, the feedback that has been received indicates the virtual platforms went well. Please continue to regularly communicate with the teachers of your students to track their progress.
As we move into the last weeks before winter break, most weeks of school will be shortened; attendance is more important than ever. We encourage students to arrive to classes on time, whether in person or online.
To the Class of 2021
University application season is upon us. Although some of you may have already applied during the first round of Early Decision deadlines, more deadlines are approaching - please pay attention to the posted dates of your respective schools. If you have a university application deadline that occurs over the winter break (December 11-January 2), please make sure that you submit your applications by the university deadlines. Colleges do not take into consideration the various high school holiday breaks. If your university is one that allows student submission of transcripts or grades, please make sure to request the transcript and/ or anticipated scores by 3:00 p.m. on December 9, 2020.
Best,
Ms. Lumpkins
High School Vice-Principal
Students from each of the the four programs (Drama/Theatre Studies, Instrumental Music, Vocal Music, and Visual Art) share their talents and demonstrate what they’ve learned over the course of 9 weeks. Check out the link below to view the virtual presentations of grade 6 students.
2020/2021 has been another strong albeit unique year for PE at GAA. PE teachers have provided diverse online opportunities within lessons for students to participate in a variety of sporting challenges, nutrition based topics and health related units. Students enjoy sports related Kahoots, sports based research and challenges such as TikTok dances, Just Dance, NetFlex or workout competitions.
Currently we are unable to offer face to face PE due to Covid restrictions. But we are looking forward to welcoming all students on campus in the near future. We are very hopeful that we will be able to engage in physical activity, play games and participate in after school competitions!
On Saturday 31st of October, GAA Wildcats successfully participated in a Cross Country event held at Hudayriat Island. Middle School Boys and Girls competed in a 3 km run and High School Boys and Girls in a 6km run.
This event was by invitation of Anglo-American School of Moscow and our athletes ran against American International School of Budapest, The English School of Bogota, QSI Almaty International School, Tashkent International School, American Community School Beirut, ABA Oman International School, International School of Panama, Kyiv International School, AIS Vienna, Whittle School & Studios, American international School of Johannesburg, International School of Tanganyika, Kazakhstan International School (Almaty), ACS Hillingdon, (UK) Letovo school, Shanghai American School Pudong, American School of The Hague, ACS Athens, and The English School (Bogotá) Colombia.
Congratulations to everyone for being part of this wonderful event!

Ms. Iliana and Mr. David
Go Wildcats!
Many of our GEMS American Academy students were part of the SCOPE 2020 climate change conference in late October. In the last newsletter, we announced all of the representatives. This week, we would like to recognize some of these students for winning in their categories. We are very proud of them and, again, it shows that GAA’s mission to develop global citizens who have the confidence and conviction to pursue their dreams and impact the world is truly being achieved!
Congratulations to the following students!
Jackson Roby is well known at GAA for his trumpet playing in the GAA Big Band, High School Concert Band and infamous Rubber Band. He is currently studying IB Music and in his senior year. As part of his final IB Music submission, Jackson is required to complete a series of compositions and that is what we’re highlighting today.
Foilah is the result of weeks of research into negative harmony. If you listen to Foilah without knowing what’s at work in the creative process, there’s something about the harmonic movement that might feel surprising. You can feel intuitively that the work has a very solid structure, but at the same time; the chords don’t seem to move in a way that you would expect. This is because Jackson has used negative harmony in order to invert the chord progression around a central axis. This is a concept developed by Ernst Levy in his book ‘A Theory of Harmony’.
“Art is never finished, only abandoned”. Whilst Foilah is not yet a complete work, it’s important to recognize the depth of independent study that Jackson has undertaken in order to create this beautiful work.
We can all agree that this year is very unique and our lives are very different than before.
The 2020/2021 yearbook will have a very personal feel to it and will capture the craziness of this school year.
Due to safety restrictions and considering that number of our students are still on full distance learning, we will not have Stu Williamson take student formal photos at school this year. In case things change, we may schedule the photoshoot for March 2021.
This is where we need our Parents and Students' help:
For KG/Elementary, we ask that parents send a recent picture of their child doing anything they like, eating, playing, exercising... clear face and good lighting.
For MS/HS, we ask that students send us a selfie, that can be funny but appropriate.
Homeroom and advisory teachers will reach out to their students/parents shortly with details. We hope to get the photos before the Winter Break.
Let's make a delicious lemonade out of the lemons, so generously given by 2020!
