Happy New Year and welcome back!
I hope you had a restive and restorative winter break. I am happy to be back and am looking forward to an exciting next few months of learning. Of course, I would have preferred that we would have started in school but I am remaining hopeful that this will start from January 17th - I can’t wait to see the students in person!
January always seems to be a challenge as we adjust from three weeks away from school. The shift to Distance Learning complicates this and it is understandable that we all feel a little out of sorts at this time. As we navigate another new situation brought on by COVID, it is extremely important that we focus on communication and collaboration. Distance Learning can leave us all feeling isolated and we find ourselves working harder to try to do things that are usually so simple. Please be sure to reach out to your child’s teacher and the school for questions that you may have, to keep you from feeling confused and isolated during Distance Learning.
Another way to help with this transition back to school is to re-establish routines in place before the winter break started. Students getting up at a regular time and having preparation routines will help them to prepare for the day ahead - even if it is at home. Creating a workspace for your child will help as well. Just the simple act of moving into a prepared workspace will help to mentally prepare your child for a day of Distance Learning.
Last but not least, please remember that we have counsellors on staff who are ready to support you and your child with any social or emotional challenges that this time may bring. As a community, we stand ready to support each other, even when we are not in school.
Have a great week,
John O'Neill
Elementary Vice Principal
Happy New Year from 5C!
The start to this year is very different to how 2021 ended. This week we have been reconnecting with each other and reacquainting ourselves with distance Learning. Fortunately we have been using padlet during semester one, so it has been an easier transition into online learning.
We are making the best of the current situation by checking in, using fun educational platforms and making learning engaging while online. Using our online platforms, it is clear many of our 5C students are not fans of distance learning by looking at our zoom meeting faces and comments on this padlet. It is easy to see, we cannot wait to be back face to face in school as soon as we can.
