This year we celebrated READING MONTH with the theme
My Family Reads
In the UAE, March is observed as the Month of Reading.
This serves to encourage our community to read daily and advocate the culture of reading as part of our daily routine. It also introduces creativity and innovative initiatives to increase the interest in reading, raise awareness and showcase its importance.

My family and I have always read books together, especially when my brothers and I were younger and just learning to read. I think that it was important that we did this, because now we have our own inside jokes and great memories, as well as a love for reading developed together. I'll never forget when I was only about 5 years old and my dad was reading this book to me about an old gardener and his pig. I really can't remember it very well, but I remember getting frustrated because some words were italicized and I didn't know why at that point. I'm not sure why that stuck, but I love looking back at it. - Maida, grade 8
When we were much younger, before we would go to bed on some nights, our parents would read us a story from this folktale picture book that we used to own. I remember one time they read us The Tortoise and the Hare. Dehi, our brother, Ose, and I gathered around our parents on the carpet and listened attentively. This moment was so memorable because it was the first time I had heard this classic story, and my parents emphasized the moral of the story: slow and steady wins the race. I'm sure, at the time, Dehi was too young to understand the message, but she loved to listen to our parentsread. - Eje, grade 11
It is important to read books as a family so that we can talk about the plots and share different views on a topic and learn life lessons together. Or, in other cases, it's just a time to share a good laugh! - Dehi, grade 6
When I was little almost every night was unforgettable, my favorite memories were when my dad would come inside my bed, turn of my lights, and say a bedtime story from his mind, he would always make it so fun and sometimes scary. Another memory was when my mom would get a new book almost every day and read me it, it was always amazing how every day I would have a new and brighter imagination. I am very fortunate to have had this experience. - Nour, grade 6
An unforgettable reading experience from my childhood is my mother forcing me to read Harry Potter. Initially, I highly disliked Harry Potter; seeing it as lame, and the strange fantasy world with its many characters being too overwhelming and confusing to enjoy. Nevertheless, one summer, my mother forced me to read the first book. It was love at first page. I ended up completing the series in that summer, and became a huge Potterhead. The rest is history. - Emi, grade 12
