Dear Kindergarten families,

The moment your children have all been waiting for is upon us: The First Day of School! Our KG teachers, educational assistants, and support staff have everything in place for an exciting and productive 2019-2020 school year. I truly appreciate their effort to facilitate engaging learning environments for our students - Thank You!

For those of you returning, you will know me as Ms. Niamh Callanan, Vice Principal of KG. I have had the pleasure of meeting many of our new families on our KG tours and for those I have not yet met, I am excited to see you all for our KG staggered start on September 1st.

Our SeeSaw app will continue this fall. For new parents, you will be able to download the app and have your child’s learning celebrated with you on your electronic device. We will explore this in further detail as well as many other topics at our parent’s welcome session on:

• Sunday, September 1st at 9 a.m. (Auditorium)
  • Families from the ‘A’ group
• Monday, September 2nd at 9 a.m. (Auditorium)
  • Families from the ‘B’ group

In the first week of school KG 1 & 2 will be operating a Staggered Start to ensure the children can accustom themselves to their new environment and class teacher.

For the first three days, your child will be placed in either Group A or Group B. Group A students will start school on Sunday, September 1st and Group B will start school Monday, September 2nd. Both Group A and Group B will attend school on Tuesday, September 3rd. KG students will enjoy a shorter day during the Staggered Start with classes commencing at 9am and dismissed at 12pm.

Please note, the school bus service for KG students will begin on Wednesday, September 4^th. KG students will not be able to take the school bus during the Staggered Start. From Wednesday, September 4^th KG students will attend school for our regular school hours of 7:45am until 2:45pm Sunday through Thursday.

Below are the details of the Staggered Start:

GROUP A STUDENTS (Students with First Names Beginning A through K):

• While the students are settling in to class, Group A parents will be invited to the Auditorium for an informal coffee meet and greet.

GROUP B STUDENTS (Students with First Names Beginning L through Z):

• While the students are settling in to class, Group B parents will be invited to the Auditorium for an informal coffee meet and greet.

*All KG students will be in class together on Tuesday, September 3rd. School will resume regular hours from Wednesday, September 4^th, 7:45am- 2:45pm.

Parents with twins or more than one child joining KG may bring them on the same day. Please email the KG Vice Principal, Niamh Callanan at kgvprincipal_gaa@gemsedu.com to indicate your preferred group.

Kindly note that because KG will have a shorter day during the first three days of school, transport and catering services will only be available from September 4^th. Please provide your child with a packed lunch and arrange transportation accordingly.
