DL Issue #1 - April 3, 2026
Although we have been teaching in more challenging times, the children have simply excelled in their expectations. We are truly so proud of each one of them and their ability to navigate online learning and engage.
Our literacy has been focused on lovely stories such as ‘Going on a Bear Hunt’, and ‘Aliens love Underpants’, the children learn about the story in three parts, beginning, middle and end. They learned all about the characters in the story and developed new skills to describe them and write about them. We are also developing skills to make story maps to sequence the story. The children drew different variations of underpants develop language of adjectives such as ‘patterns, spotted bloomers, and stripes’.
In Handwriting without tears we have been learning all about the structure and rules to writing a sentence. We are learning to copy sentences and identify sounds and lowercase letters in the writing. Online, the children have been showcasing fantastic work, showing strong engagement and responding to their teachers.
We hope to continue to strengthen our approaches to online learning and make it as accessible and supportive for the children to engage and have fun in the lesson, allow them to feel seen and heard and continue to build positive relationships with them.
KG2 B has had an amazing two weeks online, they are doing a fantastic job! 🎉 The students have been consistently on time and have been completing their Seesaw activities with great effort. We’ve been celebrating their achievements with awards such as “Growth Mindset Master,” “Creative Cadet,” and “Reading Champion.”
This week in math, we explored and built the numbers 17, 18, and 19 by collecting objects and practicing how to compose and decompose numbers. In reading, we had fun acting out and retelling the story "Wolf Cub’s Song." In writing, the children shared their favorite characters from the story. In STEAM, students showed their creativity by making a sun using different materials from around the house.
In phonics, we have now learned all the letters and their sounds, what an achievement! We are now strengthening these skills by reviewing short vowel sounds through reading and writing three and four letter words.
Even though our Grade 1B class is learning from a distance, students continue to work hard and stay engaged every day. While we may not be in the classroom together, we are finding ways to stay connected and keep learning.
In math, students have started a new unit on adding 2-digit numbers and are building confidence as they practice different strategies. In writing, they are sharing their opinions about book characters and learning to explain their ideas clearly. In science, students are exploring patterns in the sky, learning about the sun, moon, and stars.
We miss being at school together, but we are proud of how our students continue to learn and grow. We look forward to being back in the classroom soon!
We have launched a focused initiative for Grades 1 and 2 to strengthen students’ Arabic language proficiency, with a particular emphasis on speaking skills, through the “Read and Create” program.
As part of this program, students present their stories to peers, building confidence, expanding vocabulary, and encouraging both creativity and self-expression. This initiative reflects our commitment to providing purposeful, student-centered learning experiences that support the development of well-rounded linguistic competencies.

First-grade students explored their community, discovering important facilities, various modes of transportation, and the roles of traditional and modern jobs. They also learned about passports and ID cards, gaining a deeper understanding of everyday life and civic awareness.
With the transition to distance learning, students will continue to engage in interactive activities that make learning meaningful and enjoyable from home.
Second-grade students explored the seven Emirates, learning their locations on the map and discovering the rich values of Emirati culture, including hospitality. They also engaged with traditional games that promote cooperation and physical activity. These lessons help foster a love for their homeland and pride in their heritage.
