Schoology Course Template Training

Step 4

Improve Navigation in Schoology/Courses Using Images

It is amazing what a difference images can make as our families, parents, and students navigate Schoology and our courses.

In this section, you will use the Insert Content button to add images to the folders in your course. Then, you will practice adding a course profile image.

Remember the course profile image shows up when someone clicks on "courses", and it shows up on every page of a course.

Add an Image to a Folder

It is really easy to add an image to a folder in Schoology. You simply edit the folder's description and use the "Insert Content" button to add a picture.

To add an image to a folder you previously created:

  1. Search for an image that you would like to use for this activity and save it to your computer.

  2. In your Schoology Sandbox course, in the Online Learning folder, find the weekly folder that you created earlier (example: Week of 8/10/20).

  3. Click on the settings icon to the right of the folder name. It looks like a spiked wheel or a gear.

  4. Click on the Insert Content button (it looks like a rectangle with a diagonal arrow pointing in).

  5. Click on Image

  6. Click Attach File, navigate to the image you have saved on your computer, select it, and click Open. The image will appear in the description box.

  7. If an image is too big, it can make navigating your course page difficult. If it is too big, drag the corners of the image inward to resize it.

  8. Click Save Changes.

Note: you can also use the insert content button to insert an image when you are first creating and setting up a folder.

You may be wondering why, in our example, we added pictures of a cow and pig to our folders. For our youngest learners, and for those struggling with literacy, a recognizable image can help them, and their family members, quickly navigate the course.

If you decide to add images in your courses, you might choose to use images related to the content that will be studies that week, or images that are of interest to your students and may build your online classroom culture. The sky is the limit.

  5. Save the image you just created somewhere that you can find it.
