This week I helped set up and execute reading rewards for students. During the third quarter of the school year students had specific Accelerated Reader (AR) goals to meet. Those who met their AR goals got to participate in the rewards time.
Each grade level had specific days for their reading rewards. I helped with 7th and 8th grade rewards since I have planning periods during their class times. Students had a variety of rewards to choose from and these students chose a library luncheon.
This week I had specific planning time with Mrs. Edie the schools library media specialist whom I am co-teaching my IDP about memorization and statistics. Mrs. Edie and I met before school a few days to make sure that we were on the same page with our planning and lesson execution.
This week I co-taught in the Learning Hub with the library media specialist, Mrs. Edie. I taught all of my classes in the Learning Hub.
I also went to a professional development about student-led conferences and discussed how this could be used at our school with Mrs. Edie and our leadership team.
This week I continued to work alongside Mrs. Edie as a collaborator in the Learning Hub. We used a multitude of consensus building activities as the students generated questions for their quizzes.
We also helped with materials and executing the creation of their video lessons. We used materials to create isolated recording spaces and use microphones to make sure the quality of sound was at its best. We worked together to troubleshoot technology.
This week I helped to process new books in our library. I also learned o process interlibrary loans and send them through the courier in our district.
This week I did circulation each day during 6th period. I helped students find books and check out books. I learned about reshelving and how placement of books in certain areas help with increasing circulation.
This week I created a Romance book display.
A student assistant and I looked through our catalog to determine which books in our school library should be recategorized as "romance". We then found the books from their current locations and gave them new labels. After updating labels we changed the labels in destiny for them. Then we moved them to a new shelf as a new display to increase interest for circulation and bring attention to our new category of books.
This week I learned to cover books. I learned the process for covering new book jackets. I practiced processing and labeling new books. I also learned about book repair. I repaired some corners, spines and pages.
This week I helped with teaching a class in the library. This class project was with two groups of students across STEM and Social Studies. The students worked to build Greek Chariots. They learned the history behind chariots, made a short presentation for them and then built them with KNEX. I worked to co-teach this taking on the role of the library media specialist.
