About Us

The Machine Design Laboratory (MDL) is a research laboratory operating within the Department of Mechanical Engineering & Aeronautics of the University of Patras. The laboratory's research activities cover a wide range of topics in the field of machine design, including:

• Design, analysis and optimization of mechanical systems and components

• Design of gears, bearings, and other power transmission elements

• Fatigue and durability analysis

• Vibration and noise control

• Micro- and nano-mechanical systems

• Biomechanics and rehabilitation engineering

The laboratory is equipped with a variety of advanced equipment and software, including:

• Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software for structural and thermal analysis

• CAD/CAM software for 3D modeling and simulation

• Testing equipment for material properties and mechanical performance

• Gear and bearing testing equipment

• Instrumentation for vibration and noise measurement

• Microfabrication and characterization equipment

The laboratory's research activities are supported by various national and international research projects and collaborations with other universities, research centers, and industry partners.
