Yield Into Support
Theme
Body Mind Centering
“Support Proceeds Movement”
Guided Practice
On this day...
On this day we bring awareness to our primary support systems of cellular breathing and gravity. We expand and condense with the rhythms of our cells, our selves. On this day, we Yield. Yielding is moving into our support, and from that relationship we increase readiness, potential energy and tone
Meditation Practices
I am Jolyn Hope.
I am a somatic story teller, movement guide and healer.
I am a warrior for liberation and creative expressive healing arts. I am here to make space for myself and others and offer new ways of experiencing your body - held at ease and free.
Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen and Body Mind Centering material (https://www.bodymindcentering.com/) expanded my experience of my physical form and gave me countless gifts / tools that expanded my embodied support system. My hope is that in sharing this material you find new ways of feeling supported, regulated and nourished by your own relationship to your body and the world around you. These movement patterns I am sharing are not something you need to invent or make happen. They simply are. And our practice is in getting to know how to relate to them.
This is OUR time to come together and amplify healing.
Liberation Journal Prompt

Consider the whole field of support systems that keeps you alive and well.
Notice the felt senses present in moving into relationship with these supports.
What movement arises?
Quotes of the day
“If you surrender to the air you could ride it” - Toni Morrison
But all our phrasing--race relations, racial chasm, racial justice, racial profiling, white privilege, even white supremacy--serves to obscure that racism is a visceral experience, that it dislodges brains, blocks airways, rips muscle, extracts organs, cracks bone, breaks teeth. You must never look away from this. You must always remember that the sociology, the history, the economics, the graphs, the charts, the regressions all land, with great violence, upon the body." - Ta-Nehisi Coates, Between the World and Me
Vocabulary
Weekly Questions: What is my relationship to my breath? My physical body? How connected is my sense of self to the land that I live on? Who were the original stewards of this land? How have things gotten so twisted? How can I see my own self more clearly? How will identifying my biases help me? What work will I do to excavate my shadow self? What do I believe I need to live safely? What do my neighbors need to live safely? What do the people who live cross town need? What is the relationship between my safety and my breath?
Song of the day
Listen to the full 28 Day Meditation for Black Liberation playlist made by Mark Gutierrez on Spotify.
“We Want Freedom”
By Dead Prez
“We Want Freedom” explores questions about Black militancy in a way that is unapologetic, but still nuanced. The song asks, if we are really committed to Black liberation, are we ready to fight back against oppression, putting our bodies on the line?
