Intro
Unit 2 changed the focus from AI to genre. I looked at a STEM-related genre to see how form and structure affect meaning. This helped me realize that writing skills aren't just about "good writing" in general; they're also about knowing the rules, patterns, and expectations of different discourse communities.
I learned to notice things like how headings, sections, and visuals organize information, how tone and word choice change depending on the audience, and how evidence is presented, interpreted, and cited by looking closely at a STEM genre.
To use AI responsibly, you need to know about this kind of genre. To get help from AI, I need to know what kind of writing I'm doing. If I don't, the output might look great but still be completely wrong for the situation.
Genre Analysis Essay
In my Unit 2 genre analysis, I looked at how a STEM text is put together and how that structure helps it do what it needs to do. I found important rules like using a formal tone, labeling sections clearly, and making claims based on evidence. I also thought about how hard it would be for AI to fully copy the deeper rhetorical choices that go into those rules.
I made my thesis clearer by focusing on how genre conventions help readers. I also added more specific examples from the text I looked at and made sure that each section had a clear focus. Improved my explanation of why knowing about genres is important when using AI tools
This unit helped me realize that if I depend on AI without knowing the genre, I might turn in writing that sounds "good" on the surface but doesn't meet the standards of the audience or the field. That realization goes back to my main point about AI and writing skills.
