Step One: Program Requirements

Academic Policies

• IMPORTANT: You must remain in good academic standing to participate in our program. If you are placed on academic probation prior to departure, you may be withdrawn from the program. Carefully review academic policies and other policies applicable to all Syracuse Abroad programs. 

• Information on enrollment policies, grades, SU library resources, registration, internships, and independent research can be found on the Preparing to Go website. 

• At Syracuse University, all work for registered classes must be completed on or before the degree certification date. If you are graduating, check with your home college regarding your degree certification date and be certain that you're aware of any remaining degree requirements. 

• Visiting students should also refer to the Syracuse Abroad website for information on transfer credit and requesting an SU transcript.

• Matriculated Syracuse students only: If you need to take an online course during a semester abroad to stay on track for graduation, first review Syracuse Abroad-specific requirements and advice. This option is not open to visiting students. 

• Students on all semester abroad programs may take only one course Pass/Fail during their time abroad. For more information, please see our policy regarding Pass/Fail requests. As with Syracuse main campus classes, students submit their Pass/Fail request in MySlice via eForms. 

Visiting students must present written confirmation that their home school has approved their Pass/Fail request. Syracuse students, your Pass/Fail request is routed directly to your home college academic advisor, who must approve the request before Syracuse Abroad receives and processes it. 

• Arrangements to do coursework on an independent research basis, if needed to satisfy a degree requirement, must be made in advance. Due date for proposals is May 15 (for fall semesters) or November 15 (for spring semesters). Send proposals to the Madrid Academic Team. 

• Check your      @syr.edu email address regularly for messages from Syracuse Abroad so you don't miss any vital information. This is how Madrid staff and faculty will reach out to you. Syracuse University data security policy requires that certain information be sent only within the syr.edu system.
