An internship in Florence allows you to apply classroom lessons to real work situations, explore career options, and develop professional and intercultural skills - all while earning academic credit. With over 50 host institutions, students at every language level can gain valuable international work experience that will distinguish you among your peers and future job applicants. Our on-site internship coordinator will work with you to find the placement that best suits your interests and qualifications.
What you should know:
For each credit earned you must fulfill a minimum of 45 hours of work at the placement (because of this time commitment, most internships carry one credit).
Internships are offered for credit only; for more information see these FAQ.
All students doing an internship must take the corresponding course, BPS 400 - The Global Workplace: Intercultural Communication and Change (1-3 credits). The course meets for one hour a week, regardless of your internship placement or hours.
Placements at specific businesses or organizations cannot be guaranteed.
Some placements require a level of Italian proficiency or other academic qualifications; review host organization descriptions for details.
Placements are not confirmed until you complete the interview process. See application procedure for more information on the selection process.
To Apply:
Review host organization descriptions and application procedure, then complete the Internship Request Form found in your OrangeAbroad portal.
THE DEADLINE TO SUBMIT FORM IS MAY 1.
All students should be advised to consult with their home school/college before undertaking an internship since there may be specific rules, requirements, and/or restrictions with regard to internship credit.
You will be administratively registered for the internship course, BPS 400, in advance of online registration.
The Florence Internship Coordinator will be in touch over the summer regarding next steps in interviewing for internships.
