Background

UKPSF IN SUT

Professor Dr Wichit Srisa-an (PFHEA) is the founder who established three universities in Thailand including, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (the first distance education university), Suranaree University of Technology (the first public autonomous university), and Walailak University, which boasts the largest campus of any university in Thailand.

In 2017, Professor Dr Wichit Srisa-an was a member of Thailand University Administrators and The Knowledge Network Institute of Thailand committees had a study trip to United Kingdom in order to study on "Professional Academic Development, University Social Enterprise, and Student Enterpreneurship in the U.K."

The purpose of this study were;

(1) Exchange of knowledge and experience on Teaching and Learning development, The development quality of teacher and development the university correspond with the ideap of Social Enterprise

(2) Support and Make the co-laborative on development of the quality of teacher and university between Thailand and United Kingdom and,

(3) Initial of co-operative between Thailand and the Higher Education Academy (HEA)

In 2018, Suranaree University of Technology was the leader university of Thailand that purpose the important issue on "Quality Learning and Teaching for Professional Development" and invite the delegate of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) to be keynote speaker.

SUT TEACHING ACADEMICS RECOGNITION SCHEME (STARS)

A scheme of support designed to develop of SUT faculty members 's skills in teaching and assessment practice for underpinning your university career.

STARS is an HEA accredited scheme of SUT, which aligned with Descriptor 1 of the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) for teaching and supporting learning in higher education. Its major aim is not only to prepare SUT faculty members to develop skills in teaching and assessment in higher education, but also to provide them with the opportunity to be recognized as an "Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy" (AFHEA) of UK on your successful completion of the STARS. After completing STARS, you will also have access to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) through the ongoing program of workshops offered to all staff through the Faculty Development Academy (FDA) of SUT.

STARS is organized by Faculty Development Academy (FDA) and its programme is offered once a year. From October 2016, it is the university’s policy that all newly recruited academics, with less than three years of teaching experience in universities, are required to undertake the STARS programme within a specified period as part of their probationary conditions.
