Welcome to Sebeka Public School. We are a 2-section K-12 building with small class sizes. This is my 7th year as the K-12 principal and I truly love being apart of the Sebeka Trojan family.
In our elementary, literacy has been a very large focus. We had a group of teachers begin their professional development journey with LETRS training last year. This year, all of our K-4, special education and paraprofessionals will be trained in LETRS. Our K-2 teachers will continue to use SPIRE [Specialized Program Individualizing Reading Excellence] a multi-sensory teaching approach utilizing systematic, sequential phonics and phonological awareness in grades kindergarten through eighth. This program will help to ensure that no student “slips through the cracks” when it comes to reading.
Moving from elementary to junior high can be a little scary for some students. Our junior high teachers are here to help with the transition. We have a 13-minute advisory period for each day. The schedule for the advisory period is motivational Mondays, grade checks on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, a varying lesson on Thursdays, and teacher choice or Connect time on Fridays.
I am amazed at all of the opportunities our small school offers for our high school students! Our available classes provide opportunities in many different areas. From the required core classes to electives, our students have a wide variety of choices to meet their needs. We offer students the ability to earn 37 college credits during their high school years and even the chance to take college classes online! Our high school will also be doing a 13-minute advisory period each day. Their schedule is the same as our junior high students.
We want our students to learn how to have good digital citizenship so our teachers use Classwize. This program gives teachers a lot of control over students' Chromebooks. These controls include viewing student screens, locking screens, and sending class Chromebooks to a URL. The administration will be using Linewize as next-level protection for students’ online use. Linewize uses both AI and human monitoring to alert the administration if there is a possible threat of violence, bullying, self-harm, or inappropriate use of searches. Linewize can monitor many online platforms. We are excited to use this and feel that it will help us to continue to keep our students safe online while in school. We ask that parents continue to monitor their child’s social media and online use while at home. Together we can help our students become good digital citizens.
Together with parents and the community, we want to help our students to BELONG to something bigger. BELIEVE in possibilities. BECOME the future.
