It was unforgettable when we first visited Yong Lian Temple in the Luzhou Night Market. The temple sits north and faces south with a God statue on both sides of the doorway. Visitors might feel like traveling back when stepping into the temple because it is historic.
The origin of Yong Lian Temple can be traced back to several centuries ago. It is said that two Buddhist worshippers fundraised with the statue of Guanyin. Unfortunately, they encountered a typhoon when traveling on the boat. What's worse, their ship was swept to the ferry terminal in Tamsui, New Taipei City. Thanks to the local person, Li You, they went ashore safe and sound. Afterward, they followed guidance from Guanyin. They built a temple and enshrined Guanyin in the place where Yong Lian Temple is located. Therefore, Guanyin is the main deity of Yong Lian Temple. One thing that you need to see is a statue of Guanyin because it is made of gold. The temple is often crowded with worshippers to pray or thank Guanyin.
When it comes to the local snack near Yong Lian Temple, Qiezi noodles is one of the common dishes in this district. The best part of the dish lies in its broth, stewed with large bones and three layers of pork. You will smell the great scent when taking a sip. It is said that Zhou Wu Pig was the first person to sell this traditional snack in front of Yong Lian Temple. He passed down his techniques to his apprentice, Yang Wan Bao. Since the business went well, many people imitated him to set up a booth. Therefore, Qiezi noodles shops can be seen everywhere in Luzhou.
