The Riverhead Central School District believes that the use of Learning Devices such as Ipads and Chromebooks can lead to better educational outcomes when used appropriately.
As written into our Instructional Technology Plan, we support a learning device for every student to ensure equitable access to technology. For more information on the technology plan please go here.
During the Covid-19 Shutdown, hundreds of Chromebook devices were been donated to help support our students. We are very grateful to OLA of Easterrn Long Island, RCFA, RAPA, PARA and others for their generosity throughout the Coronavirus Pandemic.
If it were not for the Generosity of OLA of Eastern Long Island and Michael Donovan, The Riverhead Central School District could not have supported providing Chromebooks to students in the 2020-2021 School Year. In Total, OLA of Eastern Long Island Donated nearly $1,000,000 worth of devices and software licensing.
Shutting down and powering up a Chromebook is an essential part of its security protocol which includes a procedure called verified boot that can detect malware and eliminate it. If you are using a shared Chromebook and are returning it to a cart, please log out and shut down your Chromebook. For individually issued Chromebooks, it is best to shut down your Chromebook when not in use for a period of a few days.
When the Chromebook lid is closed or when the Chromebook is idle for 3 hours, the Chromebook goes into a sleep state preserving all the open windows and tabs. As a Chromebook wakes from sleep state, the student's password is now required.
