Hi! Welcome to my 3D printing journal! In this post, I will be telling my story about my experience in the 3D printing world and how I started it. When I was a high school student, I was very interested in the technology field. I had only seen videos of technology but never really had a chance to get in touch with them. When I arrived at RIT, I heard from friends about "The Construct" at RIT which is where I would love to explore. I followed the map and headed to The Construct in the Institute Hall. I was shocked to see all the equipment they had in the facility. They had soldering iron, laser cutter, power supply, 3D printers, resin printers, and so much more! I walked in wishing I could 3D print something right away because I wanted to get hands-on experience with more technologies. However, I don't even know how to mess with them, I was afraid to mess with them. What if I break them? How do I start printing? Where can I get 3D models? With many concerns in mind, I felt shame for not knowing enough about them despite having watch a lot of videos about them.
Who is the imposter? Me!!
Later on, I thought it was a good idea to find a club or an organization and join them to get help and learn some basics about 3D printing. I visited many clubs that seemed to be good places to develop my skills. But many technology-related clubs were very populated. This meant I'd have a harder time catching the upperclassmen's attention. Eventually, I found the Computer Science House (CSH). CSH is a special interest house at RIT. This organization is where people who have a strong interest in computers gather. We share knowledge with others, we are much smaller and closely connected to everyone else in the organization. Long story short, I could see that this organization would care more about me.
My first major project for CSH involves a fair amount of hardware. The name of my major project is Kitty Fan. Kitty Fan is a Persistence of Vision (POV) display. A POV display is essentially just an LED strip spinning on a motor and displays a hologram-like image controlled by a Raspberry Pi 2.
During my time at CSH, I learned how to use many new devices such as Raspberry Pis, circuit design, 3D modeling, 3D printing, and more! I find these skills very useful because they broadened my view. I can think of more creative ideas and build them by myself.
Stay hungry! Stay foolish! You never what you can build!

I wanted a laptop stand because almost all the time I have to look down and work on my laptop for a long. Some coding assignments are very time-consuming and this is bad for my neck and could lead to neck pain. I thought "we have printers in CSH so can I make my own laptop stand and not buy one online?" and here I am. The images above are for the laptop stand project I was trying to print.
Since I am not a genius, I make a lot of mistakes. Making mistakes is a good way to learn. No one was born perfect. I spent many nights searching for solutions to problems I encountered during the printing process. I asked other members of CSH to take a look and try to fix them together, and eventually, I did it. I printed my own laptop stand that solves my neck pain problem!
