The RWJH Theatre Arts Magnet allows RISD 7th and 8th graders to take theatre class as a credit-bearing elective with other dedicated students, and perform in class and school shows.

Mr. Hemsath is very excited be a part of the Richardson West Junior High crew as the Theatre Magnet Teacher. Mr Hemsath grew up close by in Wylie, Texas and is a graduate from Ouachita Baptist University graduating with a Bachelor of Music in Musical Theater. In college, he spent his time performing in musicals, plays, operas, and multiple choirs as well as working behind the scenes as a stage manager and as a student director.
He has performed in multiple professional productions in and out of the DFW area. Some favorites have been Evita and Newsies with Lyric Stage, The View Upstairs and Disaster with Uptown Players, and originating the role of Oliver in Frank-N-Friend at Casa Mañana. As a Director/ Choreographer some of his favorite shows he’s worked on are an original show he co-wrote and directed and choreographed called Painting the Roses Red at Ouachita Baptist University, and Disaster, Heathers, Newsies, Matilda, Tuck Everlasting and Big Fish with North Texas Performing Arts.

RWJH Magnet Showcase night for 6th grade students and parents to come see the RWJH Magnet Programs takes place in November of each year. Find out more information from your elementary counselor.
Students join the Richardson West Junior High Theatre Arts Magnet by application and audition only. Any eligible student in Richardson Independent School District may only apply and audition as a 6th grader.
