The Magnet Communication Program at Richardson High School gives students an opportunity to learn about the Broadcast and Film Industry from the foundation up. Freshmen begin their journey from the beginning learning the history of communications, basic composition, camera movement and various ways to tell their story through a variety of multi media software. Their sophomore year not only gives them their Art Credit it will also teach them multiple software platforms using the Adobe Suite such as Photoshop and Premiere as well as teaching them layout, importance of color, prep and animation techniques. Finally, sophomores will compete in video contests as well as several projects to get them ready for their Jr year as they are a part of the Broadcast Team that produces 150+ live shows a year called Eagle Eye. As Juniors, students will continue their maturation process in telling story as they will delve into a plethora of projects to sharpen their skills in the narrative world by creating several genre group and individual projects through scripting, understanding the importance of the lens, building multiple projects that will hone their skills, as well as broadcasting the EAGLE EYE throughout the building and district. They also compete in video contests both local and national, do professional work opportunities from the district, the City and outside businesses. Lastly, as their Senior year arrives it is full on into building their portfolios, Film Festival Contests, Professional work and different genre projects that will help them further their craft to get them ready for college and/or the professional world.
