Important Announcements & FAQ

Who should I contact if I have a question about my child?

Because of the nature of 5th grade, and how our team collaborates, it would be best for you to email all three of your child's teachers. We will work together to answer your question or concern as quickly and efficiently as possible, and be in touch within 24 hours.

Do you have a Focus account?

Sign up for an account to view current grades that will be on progress reports and report cards! To create an account, click the link: https://focus.risd.org/focus/index.php and select PARENTS.

Where do I find my child's assignments?

Click on the Resources and Tutorials Tab for information. Our digital assignments will be pushed out through Google Classroom, and paper assignments will be handed out in class.

Who do I contact if I have a content-specific question?

If you have a question that is specific to one subject, please contact that subject area's teacher.

Classroom Platform and Connections

This year, we will be using Google Classroom to communicate important connection and assignment information.

5th graders follow a 3-class rotation schedule. Their homeroom assignment this year will determine the order in which they attend each of their classes. Click on "Schedule" to see the 5th grade schedule with times.

Parents and guardians have the opportunity to sign up for "Guardian Summaries," something that we highly recommend. Please be on the lookout in your email for an invitation for these, and "accept" as soon as possible. This will provide you with a weekly update of your child's progress, assignments, and due dates in all classes.

Grading Policy

All assignments are worth 100 points.

Late/Missing Work:

If a student turns in an assignment late, he/she will receive a work habit "mark" per our grade level policy. Students are responsible for keeping and turning in their assignments each day. It is the responsibility of the student to collect make up work after an absence or make other arrangements with the teacher.

We appreciate your support as we build lifelong learners!

Redoing Assignments:

Students are allowed to redo assignments as appropriate, per teacher discretion. Quizzes and tests may not be redone.

Headings on Student Work:

We have been practicing adding the correct heading to all of our classwork. For paper assignments in language arts, science, and social studies, this consists of the student's first and last name, homeroom teacher and student number, and the date. All of these items are to be written on the top right corner of the page. For paper assignments in math, students must write their first and last name.

Beginning Monday, September 12th, we began taking points off final assignment grades for incorrect headings. Up to five points may be lost. This practice is to instill the importance of including pertinent information on assignments, as well as following required expectations that have been put in place.
