LHHS JWAC students are making a difference worldwide!

In Spring 2023, one of our members received the Global Gateway Grant from the DFW World Affairs Council, and $500 of this grant has been dedicated to a service project for LHHS JWAC. Our members would like to make an even bigger impact and raise more funds to allow our volunteers to assemble and send more filters to areas of the world that need clean water access, saving more lives.

Why is clean water so important?

Worldwide, 2.2 billion people still lack access to safe drinking water.  This causes death and disability from preventable diseases, especially in children.  For example, in 2017, it is estimated that 1.2 million people died prematurely worldwide as a result of unsafe water.  Filtering water can prevent diseases like cholera, hepatitis A, typhoid, polio, and parasitic infections.  In many areas of the world, the job of sourcing clean water falls on women, and providing clean water access allows girls and women to access education, improving gender equality.

Why is LHHS JWAC supporting Wine to Water?

Wine to Water is a nonprofit organization started by a musician and former bartender who was recognized as a CNN Hero in 2009.  The organization partners with companies across the country to raise awareness and funds to get water filters to families who need them across the world.  Each filter kit from this organization will provide a family of 10-12 with up to 10 years of clean water.

How can you help?

Please support this LHHS JWAC project by making a donation to our team!  The process is fast, easy, and secure, and it will benefit a great cause!  Each filter kit costs $62 for supplies and shipping to its final destination.  Our goal of $1,550 will allow us to fund, assemble, and ship 25 filters.  We hope you will help us reach our goal.

Please donate before our deadline of Wednesday, September 27!  Follow the link below to donate:
