AcDec is not a traditional course. Grades for RHS students are determined through effort, communication, and corrections. AcDec is less structured than a typical secondary class, thereby giving students the opportunity to develop the more independent approach to learning required of college students. We attempt to choose study team members whose academic records, teacher recommendations, and personal interviews indicate their potential for success in the program.
Decathletes compete in each of ten events: Speech, Interview, Essay, Math, Music, Art, Economics, Literature & Language, Science and Social Science. Though no one is expected to be an expert (we DO spend the year learning and practicing), a promising candidate for the study team should feel confident of his/her abilities in several of the ten topics.
