The Seattle Aquarium's mission—Inspiring Conservation of Our Marine Environment—begins right here at home. Beautiful, majestic and teeming with a rich diversity of life, the Salish Sea is nevertheless in trouble. At the same time, problems facing our local waters are global in scale.

Each year, NOAA's Coral Reef Conservation Program (CRCP) awards over $8 million in grants and cooperative agreements to U.S. states, territories, and commonwealths, and to partners across the Caribbean and Pacific regions. Funds support conservation projects and scientific studies that benefit coral reef management.
They are actively restoring coral reefs on a massive scale, educating others on the importance of our oceans, and using science to further coral research and coral reef monitoring techniques. They work to support the reefs’ natural recovery processes through the large-scale cultivation, outplanting, and monitoring of genetically diverse, reef-building corals. They also engage and empower the community to join us to save our planet’s coral reefs with dive programs, educational activities, scientific collaborations, and outreach.
