Renton Municipal Arts Commission Student Art Competition

The Renton Municipal Arts Commission invites student artists, grades pre-K through 12, to submit their works about how they “Envision a Healthy Future.” The art competition is open to Renton students grades pre-K through 12. They encourage submissions that convey emotions, feelings, ideas and thoughts on COVID-19, social distancing, quarantine, and the fight against the virus, through digital submissions of any medium.

Write a narrative story about one of the pictures in the attached document. Make sure your story includes:

- A beginning that introduces the main character and the problem

- A middle where the problem gets worse

- An ending where the problem is resolved

- A balance of dialogue, character action, and description

- Paragraphs that separate the different parts of the story

Write an information essay about this topic: How to virtually learn at home. If you type your essay, share the Word document with your teacher. If you write your essay, take a picture of your essay and email it to your teacher. Make sure your essay includes:

  • An introduction that introduces the topic and why it is important

  • Use transition words like: next, after, also, for example, another

  • Use paragraphs that separate the parts of your essay (The parts of your essay could be different things you can do to virtually learn at home)

  • Specific details and examples

  • A conclusion that reminds the reader of your topic and suggests what the reader should do next
