There are three main 'conditions of use' to observe when you are in the library. (This is part of your Learning Agreement/ QE Agrees - which you signed at the start of your first year).
1. You are expected to work quietly at all times. Silent at all times in the silent (glassed off) area.
2. Food is not permitted in order to preserve the library as an effective, clean study environment. Drinks are OK. Please put any rubbish in the bins/ recyclers as appropriate.
3. Please take/ make phone calls outside of the library. Use the facilities (computers etc.) as directed, and report any problems to library staff.
Thanks for your co-operation with keeping the library as the quiet working area that students want.
You'll need your student ID card. Simply bring the item you want to borrow to the library counter and we'll issue it to you.
Most books can be borrowed for up to 3 weeks. If anything has a different return date we will let you know.
Any equipment such as Chromebooks, chargers, cameras etc., are generally borrowed for a lesson. Ask staff if you have a query about borrowing stock.
Some items such as your subject textbooks, and lockers for example, are loaned out to you for as long as you need them.
You have 30 'spaces' on your ID card to borrow things.
You can reserve an item by either asking staff at the library counter, or email us on library@qeliz.ac.uk. We will then get the item ready for you to collect at the library counter.
Or - you can login to the library catalogue with your usual student network details, and reserve online. If the title you want is not in our stock, do still ask as we will consider all requests for purchase.
Reminders are emailed to your college Gmail account once a week with regard to overdue stock. Please speak to library staff if you wish to query an overdue item.
To renew an item bring your ID card to the library counter and we can do that for you.
Or - email us on library@qeliz.ac.uk
If you have lost something, or it has been damaged beyond repair, you will be required to pay for it. If a lost item subsequently turns up, we will refund you.
(Please note that you are responsible for the safe care and return of anything borrowed on your student ID card).
You can book a library computer through the MyPC system up to 3 days in advance (within College only).
29 of the 88 library computers are ‘walk up and use’ – you don’t need to book them.
All other computers in college –in the Atrium, Mezzannine, Space and in classrooms don’t use MyPC and therefore do not need booking in advance.
We also loan out Chromebooks from the library counter for a lesson at a time - remember your student ID card.
Silent study is provided in the glassed-off area of the library.
Quiet working is expected everywhere else in the library.
Study carrels are for individual students, and the small group tables can be used for pairs wishing to study quietly together. Larger groups must use free classrooms - we show a daily list at the library counter.
