WHAT OUR STUDENTS SAY

Here you will find some comments about the course from some of our current students

What I really like about the course is it gives you independence and the ability to be creative in your own work and you can choose the magazine/ series/ subject type you studying.

Due to it being 100% coursework you can work at the pace you like. When you finish the work you’re done until you get set your next unit which I love.

This subject has taught me Photoshop skills and how to edit my videos in a professional way. This is going to help in my future because I hope to study architecture or interior design in university where being able to present my work creatively and professionally will come in handy. It has also taught me to work at my own rate but to make sure the job is done for a set date. This will also help me manage my time in university and in life in general.

Abi Harris, First Year

I chose this course because the 100% coursework element is perfect for me. Exams never suited me as it's years worth of study and revision just for one day, but this isn't a problem with coursework as all that study adds into your final grade. It's also convenient as you can get the teacher's support throughout the course and this gives you the opportunity to get the best grade you can. I also enjoyed the practical elements from GCSE media and wanted to continue making my own products. It's also interesting to learn about the industry, which sets you up for the real world.

QE offers many media resources to help with the projects, including cameras, lighting and editing software.

From this subject, I have not only gained an A level equivalent qualification but also experience and interest in a subject that I may pursue in the future. Whether this is at university or on an apprenticeship, it will really help me. Another thing that I enjoy about the course is the practical aspect of the units which allow you to use some of the applications that would be used in higher education or a future job in the industry. The course is also 100% coursework which is a bonus as you don't have to worry about exams at the end of the year.

I really like how the course is full coursework absolutely perfect if you're not an academic person. I found that the course is good for leadership which will definitely help if you want to go into the media industry as to put a film together you need a team.

I am hoping after uni I will be going into the media industry as a photographer and videographer, however as a backup I always have my handy indesign skills that will help me to create magazines for companies.

I chose to do media technical because it was fully coursework, not only that but the staff are brilliant and will definitely help if you are not sure of how to go about the project. I put photography alongside the media because I have a strong interest and know exactly where I want to end up in the future. I'm heading to Falmouth University to study Marine & Natural History Photography.

Tom Snowdon, Second Year

I have learnt how to manage my time successfully, in order to finish units before deadlines. I have also learned how to use photoshop, as well as analysis. This will help me in my future workplace as time management can be crucial in many workplaces and being able to analyse meaning and objectives is also a skill I'm happy to have learned for my future.

I chose this creative course because it is nice to be able to adapt your own ideas and the practical element is good as you learn many different ways to make ideas come to life and also make them fit the objectives of the unit.

My favourite part of the course was the analysis of existing brands, tv shows and magazines. This is because it makes you think more about the meanings behind every little detail within a project. The coursework element was a positive for me as I prefer coursework to exams as it is less stressful and there is opportunity for improvement.

QE offered all the equipment I needed for my units throughout the media course, including cameras, studio and mac computers to edit. The marking process is very helpful as it gives an opportunity for feedback and to boost your work to the next level. My favourite units were unit 1, analysing a media product and unit 14, analysing and making my magazine. I enjoyed unit one as it included a deep analysis of a tv programme of your choice, this meant that i was able to dive deeper into the meaning and techniques used within one of my favourite programmes. I also enjoyed unit 14 as planning and making my magazine was fun and it was nice to see the finished design when finished.
