COMPANY PROGRAMME
Company Programme empowers young people to set up and run a student company under the guidance of a business volunteer. Students make all the decisions about their business, from deciding on the company name, managing the company finances and selling to the public. Participants gain practical business experience and key skills.
Each year students take part in the IFS Student Investor Challenge. This is an exciting online share trading competition whereby teams of four students choose shares using £100,000 of virtual money, over a four month period. It is then possible to sell, buy or keep the shares just like you might in the real world and try to make the biggest return possible.
At QE this is a very popular competition amongst our students. Students gain the experience of working in a team, develop decision making, communication and organisation skills while also using their knowledge gained in Business or Economics to make sound financial investments. In the past we have had teams who have reached the quarter-finals and the overall winning team wins the prize of an expenses paid trip to New York.
Work Experience gained by QE student at the Darlington Building Society.
There are opportunities to participate in day trips to visit business and interview staff and owners, as part of the coursework element of the course . There are also other enrichment activities. For instance, we often host relevant outside speakers and positively encourage you to make links with business.
