WORK EXPERIENCE INFORMATION
Work Experience education is offered to students who meet the following criteria:
GENERAL WORK EXPERIENCE:
Be at least 16 years of age or a Junior or senior status.
Be employed (the District does not have placement services: each student must find and have their own job before enrollment)
Have satisfactory grades (2.0) and good citizenship in regular classes.
Students in alternative education will be treated as regular students.
Have satisfactory attendance. (no more than 10 days in a quarter)
(Grades and attendance checks will be required at least once during the quarter.)
Students provide their own transportation. The length of Work Experience class is one semester. Up to two periods of Work Experience can be completed each semester and Work Experience offers up to five (5) credits per period taken. Students must attend and pass all Work Experience classes to be eligible for Work Experience credit. Students may earn forty (40) credits total during their high school career.
EXPLORATORY WORK EXPERIENCE:
Work Exploration is non paid and has as its purpose the vocational guidance of the students by affording them opportunities to observe and sample systematically a variety of conditions of work for the purpose of ascertaining interest and suitability for the occupation they are exploring. Work Exploration is offered to students when the following conditions are met:
Work site must be pre-approved by the Work Experience Coordinator.
Students must provide their own transportation.
Satisfactory grades, citizenship and attendance in all classes.
Open to students in grades 11-12
Must volunteer at least 4 hours per week.
Can not take the place of a paid employee
Students may earn extra credits, have short schedules, and work more hours than a regular student. Subjects covered include: job applications, resume writing, interviewing skills, job letters, labor laws, taxes, insurance, budgeting, post high school plans, career goals, post high school education, work ethics & attitudes, and fastest & largest growing occupation.
