Week 5 (4/27 - 5/4): Time to catch up on your previous music assignments.

This week I am providing all students time to go back and complete any activities from the last four weeks that they may not have completed yet: Week 1 Tempo, Week 2 Genre, Week 3 Household Percussion, Week 4 Note Names.

If you have completed all four weeks of assignments and shared details with me, Thank you so much for your hard work. For this week you have a few choices.

1. You can skip a music lesson this week if like, or if you just need time to catch up on other school work.

2. Go "above and beyond" to explore the music resources page and choose an activity there.

3. Go "above and beyond" to a previous activity and extend it in some way.

4. Tell me about the music you have been playing or learning at home.

5. Get ready for Week 6. The assignment will titled something like: Sing Me a Song or Play Me a Tune. Your options will be to record a song or tune and send me a video or a sound recording. Or you can send me a printed or typed copy of your own homemade lyrics to a song. Any poems that could be made into a song will work for aw well. Serious or silly music is welcome. so think about what you might do and start practicing or writing. Please look for more information for that assignment on Week 6 (May 5 to May 11th)

Week 4 (4/20 - 4/26): Assignment Exploring Interactive Games (tonal notes). Kindergarten

Try these interactive music games and the typing keyboard below. What is your favorite online music game?

Now use the interactive typing music keyboard below from aQWERTYon to play some music.

To make it work you may need click in the box after aQWERTYon loads and then just start typing on your computer keyboard. You can change the instrument, the musical key, and the volume. Make sure your computer volume is turned on. Now make some music and have fun exploring your computer typing keyboard instrument.

If you are unable to create music with aQWERTYon you can use a tonal instrument to play at home. Make sure when you play your instrument you think about the note names while you play each note.

Week 3 (4/13 - 4/19): Assignment: Household Percussion - All Grades.

Find, or create percussion instruments at home. For this week's music assignment, locate items that you find at home to create musical sounds. With a little exploration around your home you should be able find objects that make noises when you strike them, rub them, tap them or crash them together. You may also be able to create your own musical instruments to include in this activity. Maybe you can find something musical outside in your yard or when taking a family walk, or add a real musical instrument if you have one at home.

Always get your parents permission to use any of the items that you choose. You can find boxes, buckets, plastic bins, silverware, pots and pans or anything that you can create a sound with. You may also need to find or create a beater, a mallet, or set of drum sticks. Some objects you may be able to crash together like crash cymbals to make a sound. Make sure all items are safe to use. Don't use heavy or sharp objects. Also discuss with your parents where, and when, you can play these "instruments" so that you don't interrupt your family or your neighbors.

After you have chosen a collection of instruments make up some music. Create rhythms and melodies if your instruments make different pitches.

Again be safe and get your parents permission.
