The origins of this textbook are the Alaska History & Cultural Studies Curriculum Project, which was created by the Alaska Humanities Forum and and a committee of the state’s leading historians, anthropologists, geographers and educators. The project was funded by a grant by the U.S. Department of Education.
The Alaska Humanities Forum no longer hosts the project, but here is a link to an archived copy of the website (Alaska History and Cultural Studies) and it's companion Alaska's Heritage and Cultures curriculum (Alaska's Heritage and Alaska's Culture). Starting in 2017, educator Steven Cothran has worked to write and create this new edition of an Alaska History textbook. This work was originally undertaken for students of Alaska History in the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District.
