About Our Lab

The Lab for Biophysical Chemistry aims to develop new methods, tools, and technologies based on physical chemistry and apply them to solve problems of biological and medicinal significance. Over the past 20 years, our research efforts have been devoted to the development and use of surface-functionalized fluorescent nanodiamonds (FNDs) in life sciences with techniques including atomic force microscopy, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, infrared spectroscopy, ion implantation, laser spectroscopy, magnetic resonance imaging, and mass spectrometry.

The current research is focused on advancing life science research with FND-based quantum technologies for bioimaging and biosensing applications, including

  1. nanoscale temperature sensing

  2. correlative light-electron microscopy

  3. spin-enhanced lateral flow immunoassay
