Hello Sharks! My name is Mrs. Easler and this will be my seventh year serving as your SJIS Media Specialist. It's my 13th year as a librarian. I have experience working in public libraries.
I can't wait to spend the 2025-26 school year with you and your teachers as we collaborate, discover, research, learn, create and READ together!
I am married to a high school media specialist and have 2 spoiled kittens, Luna and Gizmo. I love walking and hiking, traveling, spending time with family, and listening to books and podcasts. I enjoy reading and believe your imagination is your greatest asset; keep imagining!

Hello Shark Friends! I’m Mrs. Steen and I am the Library Media Aide for SJIS.
I am VERY excited for the year we have ahead of us! I will be assisting you in finding books and in the book check out process. I try to keep the media center neat and tidy, so I hope that you all will help me with that! 🙂
I am married to a Marine Veteran and we have 4 children, a dog, 3 cats, and fish. I enjoy spending time with my family, relaxing in the pool or at the beach, camping, golf cart rides, cooking, and reading. I enjoy reading because every book takes you on a new adventure!

The media specialist will:
Reinforce the SC CCR curriculum standards by purchasing a variety of quality materials that align and support them.
Teach students digital citizenship and information literacy lessons.
Teach students to become discriminating users of information and critical thinkers.
Foster creativity, spark innovation, encourage curiosity, instill academic integrity and celebrate the love of reading.
Partner with outside academic and educational institutions to promote access to information.

Checkout Policies
Checkout Policies
You can check out up to 2 books for 2 weeks.
Sharkbite books are checked out for extended time.
You can check out 1 ebook at a time for 2 weeks.
Books may be renewed once through your Destiny Discover account.
Ebooks and audiobooks are always available to be checked out in Sora, no matter how many physical books you have checked out. These materials are managed through the Sora App.
There are no late fines, because you can renew your books at anytime as long as no one else has requested them.

SJIS LLC utilizes "responsive scheduling."

FIXED: All students will visit the library once every 2 weeks for a relevant media/technology lesson and/or book checkout and reading time. (Approximately 60 minutes).
FLEX: Any student may visit the library with a pass from their teacher (2 students max per class). Classroom teachers can schedule library time as their students need access to resources.
Fifth Grade Specials:
12:00 - 1:00: Room 163
1:30 - 2:30: Room 163
Sixth Grade Blocks:
Students will visit biweekly with their ELA class.
All Students:
Students can visit individually with teacher permission and Smart Pass acceptance by library staff with a limit of TEN students at any given time.

Lost/Damaged Books Policy
Lost/damaged books must be paid for before you regain the privilege of checking out more items.
Book fines can be handled by doing one of the following:
MyPaymentsPlus payment is made for the replacement cost of item.
Replacement Book is purchased for the library (correspondence with librarian to retrieve the ISBN).
If you arrive to the desk and no one is there, please see the procedure below:

When Ms. Easler or Ms. Steen are away from the desk, completely fill out the form that corresponds to your needs.
For 6th grade Shark Bite books, make sure you have filled out the form entirely so that we can better assist you. Without it, we will be unable to properly retrieve your book.
