A Supplemental On-line Learning Program for
HCS High School Students
In partnership with eleven base high schools and two program schools, the HCS FLEX Program connects students with certified instructors, engaging curricula, and flexible learning opportunities that empower them to become independent and lifelong learners.
For more than 15 years, the HCS FLEX Program has provided Horry County Schools students with access to high-quality online high school courses throughout the fall, spring, and summer terms. Students may take online classes for high school credit alongside their traditional schedules—at no cost—expanding opportunities for academic success and acceleration.
Through meaningful virtual learning experiences, students strengthen their academic skills and deepen their knowledge, preparing them for success in college, careers, and lifelong learning.
While today’s students are naturally adept with technology, online learning introduces additional skills essential for future readiness—such as meeting deadlines, completing assignments independently, practicing digital citizenship, and collaborating in virtual environments.
Certified Instructors: All courses are taught by qualified teachers who guide and assess student progress.
Comprehensive Curriculum: Courses meet national, state, and district academic standards.
Flexible Access: Students can engage with their coursework from school or home through a secure online platform.
Structured Learning: Students follow a clear schedule of assignments, quizzes, projects, and assessments that track achievement and mastery.
Supplemental Option: FLEX courses complement a student’s existing school schedule, providing additional credit-earning opportunities.
The HCS FLEX Program goes beyond traditional academics. Its virtual learning environment cultivates creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration—skills essential for success in the 21st-century workforce. Students also gain proficiency in information, media, and technology literacy, ensuring they are well-prepared for the demands of higher education and an increasingly digital world.
