High school graduates looking to earn a degree in Accounting, Finance or Business can apply for financial assistance through The Daniel B. Shelley, III Future Accountants Scholarship. The scholarship was named in honor of Daniel “Danny” B. Shelley, who served as Horry Electric Cooperative’s Executive Vice President and CEO from 2019 – 2025.
Applicants must be an active member of Horry Electric or dependent of an active member. The applicant must also live in the home with the member.
The $1,500 scholarship is a one-time scholarship for a freshman entering a two-year or four-year Accounting, Finance or Business program at a South Carolina College.

The Brave at Heart Foundation 2025 Scholarship
The Low Country Herb Society Scholarship
The Low Country Herb Society, a group whose purpose is to stimulate an increased awareness and knowledge of herbs, to sponsor and cultivate related herb programs in the community and to gain knowledge and stimulate interest in the planting, harvesting and uses of herbs, is pleased to offer two $1000 scholarships to students living within Horry and Georgetown counties. To be eligible students should show an interest in herbs and their uses and intend to pursue a career path that will involve herbs. The scholarships will be awarded to students who plan to attend two/four- year colleges or accredited technical institutions and to study horticulture, landscaping, culinary arts, medicine, pharmacy, or related field programs. LCHS is also offering one $500 award to a student who will enroll in the Horry Georgetown Technical College Culinary Arts Program in the Fall.
Graduating seniors may apply by submitting a short essay describing their future career plans, program of study and interest in herbs.

Scholarship Details and Application
The scholarships must be used at a public or private South Carolina college, university, or technical college and may cover tuition or other educational expenses like on-campus housing, a computer, or textbooks.
Recipients must retain a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and enroll in no less than 30 credit hours each academic year to receive funding for that year.
Scholarship applications are accepted annually, generally beginning on February 1 through March 15. Scholarship winners are announced in mid-May each year.

2024-2025 Environmental Scholarship Application
Every year, the Horry County Solid Waste Authority (SWA) awards one graduating high school senior from each high school a one-time $1,000 scholarship to encourage students pursuing a degree related to the environment, which supports SWA’s mission of Protecting Tomorrow’s Environment Today.
Eligibility Requirements
All applicants must:
Be a graduating high school senior, attending a public school in Horry County.
Resident of Horry County (for at least one year).
Pursuing a degree related to the environment, public education, waste management or health promotions field.
Enrolled as a fulltime student for Fall 2025. (Documentation of acceptance into a higher education institution is required)
Submit your application postmarked on or before Friday, February 7, 2025. Late applications will not be considered. Please use sufficient postage.
Provide a transcript of high school grades covering a minimum of six semesters. (The transcript need not be “official” and may be a photocopy.)

2025 South Carolina Governor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities Journalism Contest
The Governor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities offers an annual journalism contest.
The winner receives a 4-year scholarship to the South Carolina state-supported institution of his or her choice provided that the winner is otherwise qualified. The contest is open to high school seniors, or those otherwise qualified to begin post-secondary education no later than the 2025-2026 school year. Applicants do NOT have to have a disability to enter.
Entries must be postmarked no later than February 7, 2025.

Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship - presented by the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce Educational Foundation
Students must return this scholarship to guidance by January 14, 2025.
Background: The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce has served the Grand Strand and its business community with excellence for more than 85 years. The Chamber’s mission is to promote, protect and improve the Myrtle Beach area and its business community. The Chamber, and its members, recognize the value of higher education as an essential component to individual and community success.
Purpose: To provide scholarships to deserving Myrtle Beach area graduating seniors planning to enroll in higher education within eight (8) months upon graduation from high school.
Award: A one-time scholarship per awardee, in an amount to be determined by the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce Educational Foundation Board of Directors, will be paid directly to the recipient(s) for the intended purpose of offsetting first-year expenses related to higher education.

Applicants must meet each of the following requirements:
· Applicant must be a legal resident of the United States.

James F. Byrnes Scholarship Foundation
The James F. Byrnes Scholarship Program was established in 1949 to assist young South Carolinians who had lost one or both parents to obtain a college education. Since that time, the Byrnes Scholarships have been awarded to over 1,100 students.
The annual award of $5,000 is applied for each year of a four-year bachelor’s degree program; $20,000 for the sum of 4 years. The scholarship is renewed annually contingent upon the recipient’s maintenance of satisfactory academic standing, need for financial assistance, and participation in Byrnes Scholar activities.

Silver Pen Basics
The Silver Pen Writing Competition started in 2012 as a way to bridge the communication gap between high school seniors and our members.
Each community chooses an essay topic this year’s competition. Topics will not be released until the day Silver Pen is released to schools.
Members at each community will select three winners.
Winners will receive their awards at a special Silver Pen Ceremony.
Students must write an essay on the following topic:
Provide an example of how you’ve demonstrated leadership to make a positive impact in your community (family, work experience, school, community, service efforts, etc.) Describe the impact of your efforts and why it was meaningful to you.
Essays which do not meet the following guidelines will be disqualified:
Essay must be at least 1000 words excluding cover page and works cited.
Essay must be double spaced.

The Friends of the Carolina Forest Library Scholarship
Each year The Friends of the Carolina Forest Library awards several scholarships of $2,500 each to be used for tuition and/or books at an institution of higher learning. Full time High School Seniors who reside in Carolina Forest are eligible. Scholarship recipients must be enrolled fulltime at their institution of higher learning. The scholarship award will be paid directly to an accredited University, College, Community College or Technical School on behalf of the recipient.

Friends of CF Library Scholarship
National Association of Federal Education Program Administrators
The purpose of the scholarship program is to financially support post-secondary education for qualifying high school seniors attending their first year of college. For SCATA, scholarships are awarded at 3rd Place ($1000); 2nd Place ($1500); and 1st Place ($2000). These are non-renewable. For NAFEPA, there are four scholarships, each worth $2,500, and they are non-renewable. Two scholarships are for students pursuing degrees in education. The other two scholarships are awarded to applicants pursuing degrees in any field of study.

SC Junior Golf Foundation Scholarship
BBB Torch Scholarships are given to college-bound high school juniors, seniors, and college undergraduates, who reside or attend school within BBB of Eastern Carolinas' 48-county service area. BBB Torch Scholarships recognize students who personify high ethical standards as demonstrated through leadership, community service, overall personal integrity, and academic history.
Scholarships will be awarded to several students in the Spring of 2025, at BBB's Awards Ceremony.

Gerald Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship was established to honor the legacy of Mildred Hemingway Gerald, a lifelong educator and community service advocate.
The scholarship will be open to male and female students in targeted areas who plan to attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). Applicants must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.5.

Key Scholarship
Carolina Trust Federal Credit Union and Horry Telephone Cooperative, Inc. (HTC) have partnered to offer two scholarship awards to local graduating high school seniors who wish to continue their education at either Coastal Carolina University (CCU) or Francis Marion University (FMU). Two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to rising college freshmen seeking a four-year degree from CCU or FMU.

South Carolina Teaching Fellows Application
The SC General Assembly began funding the South Carolina Teaching Fellows Program in 1999. The mission of the Program is to recruit talented high school seniors into the teaching profession and help them develop leadership qualities. Each year, the program provides Fellowships for up to 230 high school seniors who have exhibited high academic achievement, a history of service to their school and community and/or have work experience, and also possess a desire to teach in South Carolina.
Teaching Fellows participate in advanced enrichment programs at Teaching Fellows Institutions, have additional professional development opportunities, and are involved with communities and businesses throughout the state. They receive up to $24,000 in fellowship funds (up to $6000 a year for four years) while they complete a degree leading to initial teacher certification. The fellowship provides up to $5700 for tuition and direct education expenses (including room and board) and $300 for specific enrichment programs administered by CERRA. All Teaching Fellows awards are contingent upon funding from the SC General Assembly. Fellows agree to teach in a South Carolina public school one year for every year they receive the Fellowship.
Students do not have to be in the Teacher Cadet Class to apply.

NC State University Park Scholarships
The mission of the Park Scholarships program is to bring exceptional students to NC State, based on outstanding accomplishments and potential in scholarship, leadership, service and character. The program develops and supports Park Scholars in these areas, preparing them for lifelong contributions to the university, state, nation and world.
The Park Scholarships program is named for the late Roy H. Park ’31, an NC State alumnus who created the charitable Park Foundation, dedicated to education, media and the environment. With a generous grant from the Park Foundation, the Park Scholarships program was established in 1996 to provide a superb educational opportunity for exceptionally talented and well-prepared young people who merit the intellectual challenge of a distinguished faculty and a superior university. To date, 25 classes of Park Scholars have graduated and have built a vibrant alumni network.
Approximately 35 scholarships will be awarded this year to outstanding entering freshmen for undergraduate study in any discipline at NC State.

Cooke College Scholarship Program
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation College Scholarship Program is among the largest undergraduate scholarship programs available to high-achieving high school seniors with financial need who seek to attend the nation’s best four-year colleges and universities. Each award is intended to cover a significant share of the student’s educational experience – including tuition, living expenses, books and required fees. Awards vary by individual, based on the cost of tuition as well as other grants or scholarships they may receive.
Eligibility requirements:
Senior standing – Complete four years of high school in the U.S., a U.S territory, or on a U.S. military base and plan to graduate in spring 2025.
Fall College Enrollment – Intend to enroll in an accredited four-year college beginning in fall 2025.
GPA – Earn a minimum, cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.75 or above.
Demonstrate Unmet Financial Need – We will consider applicants with a maximum annual family gross income of $95,000. Last year’s cohort of new College Scholarship recipients had a median family income of approximately $34,000. During the selection process, the Foundation will conduct a full financial review which will take into account all income and assets of the student and the student’s parents.
