An STI (or STD) is a sexually transmitted infection that can be passed through blood, semen, or vaginal fluids. STIs can cause symptoms, or they can be asymptomatic making them hard to track.
If you’ve had unprotected sexual contact with a new partner, you might want to get tested for STIs.
Some common STIs are listed below.
HIV
Gonorrhea
Chlamydia
Trichonomiasis
HPV
Herpes
Common tests may involve visual inspection, a urine sample, a quick blood draw, or a swab. Most tests are relatively quick and painless, and you should receive results in under a week. Until you have received a clean bill of health, it is advisable to avoid sexual contact with other people.
Incubation Periods
Different infections have different incubation periods, meaning that they are only detectable after a certain amount of time. Check the optimal testing windows in the chart below!
