Manisha Goel is an Associate Professor of Economics at Pomona College. She studies how trade & technology impact wages, employment, and income inequality. She also has a series of projects that explore how socio-cultural identities shape economic outcomes. Given her work's focus on firms, she has also made forays into the field of corporate finance. Before her time at Pomona, Prof. Goel was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Policy at UNC, Chapel Hill. She received her doctoral degree in Economics from the Ohio State University. Outside of work, she loves to travel, sing, and cook, and hopes to return to painting someday.
Michelle Zemel is an Associate Professor of Economics at Pomona College. She specializes in finance, with a focus on bank lending and corporate borrowing. Her work examines both the connections between financial decisions and real outcomes for firms as well as the links between the health of the banking sector and the functioning of the real economy. In her research, she aims to extract information impounded in capital markets to inform the study the role of financial events in the real economy. Prior to her appointment at Pomona, Prof. Zemel earned her Ph.D. in finance at the Stern School of Business at New York University.
Xanda Schofield is an Assistant Professor in Computer Science at Harvey Mudd College. Her work focuses on practical applications of unsupervised models of text, particularly topic models, to research in the humanities and social sciences. Prof. Schofield earned her Ph.D in Computer Science at Cornell University. Outside of research, she is an organizer of the Widening NLP workshop, whose aim is to improve representation and inclusive practices in the natural language processing community. She is a Harvey Mudd College alumna who enjoys baking and solving crosswords, and tweets @XandaSchofield.
Eloise Burtis Pomona '24
Eloise Burtis is a second year student at Pomona College from San Francisco, CA. She intends to major in Economics and minor in Spanish. At Pomona she assists in research within the Economics department and volunteers with Pomona Partners, an after school program for local middle school students. When not working, she enjoys swimming, spending time with her friends and family, traveling, and going to the beach.

Nathaniel Getachew is a math and computer science major at Pomona, class of 2023, from Santa Barbara, California. Outside of class, he assists with economics research and runs cross country and track for Pomona-Pitzer. In his free time, he enjoys listening to music and playing guitar.
Samika Goel Pomona '24
Samika Goel is a student at Pomona College from Pleasanton, California. She is in her second year of college and is a prospective Economics major with a minor in Linguistics. Her work as a student researcher in the Economics department has given her the opportunity to explore the intersectionality between these two subjects by using natural language processing to understand economic outcomes. Outside of the classroom, you can find her singing with the Pomona College Choir, playing volleyball, and enjoying a meal with her family and friends.

Chris Nardi Pomona '22
Chris Nardi is a student at Pomona College from Carmel, Indiana. He is a senior at Pomona majoring in Politics with a planned minor in Economics. Chris was one of the first EconText student researchers, focusing on the analysis of job advertisements to understand shifts in demand in skills during the 21st century. When not studying text, Chris is associate chair of the Judicial Council at Pomona College and a frequent photographer for stories in the Student Life newspaper. Chris enjoys traveling, meeting new dogs, and scrolling through Twitter.

Michelle Lum is a junior at Harvey Mudd College from San Jose, California. As a Computer Science and Media Studies major, she’s passionate about journalism, photography, and computational methods of studying text.
