Dear Science Hall Families,
We kicked off our first Character Strong Assembly on Friday, August 29th, and it was a wonderful celebration of our students!
This year, we are excited to launch our Golden Ray Council, which includes 5th-grade students who applied last spring to serve as leaders on our campus. We look forward to seeing these students shine as role models throughout the year.
We are also incredibly proud to recognize Troy Jasso, a 3rd-grade student, who was selected as part of the National Math Stars - 2025 Cohort. Congratulations, Troy, on this outstanding achievement!
In addition, we celebrated students from each grade level who demonstrated Kindness in August, and we introduced Respect as our focus character trait for September. The classes with the highest attendance in August were also recognized and awarded the Traveling Trophy!
Congratulations to all of our SUNS. Thank you for shining bright each day! 💙☀️
Warm regards,
Alejandra Valdez, Principal

ALL visitors MUST be listed in your student’s contacts. If Grandma and/or Grandpa are not listed as contacts, they will not be allowed into the school. To add contacts, please email a photo of your license, to verify that you are the guardian, and then list the people you’d like us to add to your student’s approved contacts, and please include your students first and last name. Email: SHES.Attendance@hayscisd.net.
Grandparents can pre-register at the school any time before September 4th to get their visitor's pass. Visitors will need to have and show their driver's licenses anytime they come to the school, so please remind grandma and grandpa to have their licenses on them.

Let’s make every day count because Missing School is Missing Out!
September is Attendance Awareness Month. Missing School is Missing Out! Shine Bright Suns by being at school every day on time.
We hold our students to high expectations! Our Suns can not be successful without your support! Please make sure your student's school attendance is a high priority for your family. Our students need to come to school to ensure access to high-quality education. When students miss school, they fall behind and they'll need to work hard to catch up. Consider scheduling appointments after school, during holidays, or on weekends. Our staff is expected to reach out to families every day if a student is absent. Please call the front office in the morning to let them know your child will be out and send a note to our Attendance Clerk, Sonia Morales or send us an email to SHES.Attendance@hayscisd.net
Thank you for your continued support!
A note from Nurse McBeth
HEARING & VISION SCREENS
Texas law requires schools to conduct hearing, vision, spinal, and Acanthosis Nigricans (AN) screenings to help identify potential health concerns early. New legislation now requires parents to opt in for these screenings.
Required grades for Vision and Hearing screening are: PK, K, 1, 3, 5, and 7. Required grades for Spinal screenings are: 5th and 7th grade girls and 8th grade boys. In addition to these required grades, all new to district students are required to be screened for vision and hearing regardless of grade. Some students may need to be screened during the year for special programs like special education, as well as concerns for vision or hearing in the classroom.
We are requesting that all parents complete the consent for screening regardless of grade. Your child will only be screened if they fall in one of the above categories. Parents will be notified of any screenings that are not passed for follow-up care referrals.
Please complete the consent for health screenings using the following link: Health Screening Consent
Thank you!
Please take the time to carefully read our Arrival and Dismissal Procedures. Thank you for helping us keep our students and community safe and for your continuous support!
Car Riders Front Drop-Off: Drop-off in the front begins at 7:00 AM.
Do not leave students unattended, as supervision is unavailable before this time.
Please be courteous and do not skip in the line.
For safety reasons do not drop off your kids before the crosswalk
Students should be ready to unload when it is their turn.
Please stay off your cell phones as this can delay the line and cause a safety issue. It is also against Texas law.
Car Riders Cafeteria Drop-Off: The cafeteria parking lot is designated for staff parking and buses only.
You may drop off at the cafeteria after buses leave (around 7:10 am), using the designated drop-off line. We have to unload 6 buses and we want everyone to safe.
If you are in line early, please use the roundabout that goes to the side of the cafeteria so buses are not blocked.
Please remain in your vehicle and follow staff guidance.
For safety, students should load/unload from the passenger side of the vehicle.
Please stay off your cell phones as this can delay the line and cause a safety issue. It is also against Texas law.
Car Rider Pick-Up Line Guidelines:
Parents must remain in their vehicles at all times to keep the process running smoothly and safely.
For safety, students should load from the passenger side of the vehicle.
If you need to assist your child with their seatbelt, please pull forward to the "Buckle-Up Safe Zone" to do so.
To help with the dismissal process and improve traffic flow, all cars should turn right to exit the school. Please follow the guidance of the staff on duty.
Please stay off your cell phones as this can delay the line and cause a safety issue. It is also against Texas law.
Walkers Guidelines:
"Parent pick-up" walkers are dismissed through the outside gym door. Parents will be asked to show their walker tag when picking up. Students will be sent to the front office if the parent does not have their tag.
Walkers are released after buses leave and the parking lot clears (around 3:10 p.m.)
If parent walkers are not picked up by 3:20 p.m., the students will be sent to wait with the car riders and will be dismissed at the end of the car riders' dismissal.
All walkers (parent pick-up, independent, and Dacy Ln) need a parent's consent on file to walk home. Please stop by the front office if you need your student to be a walker.
The character trait for the month of September is Respect!
Respect is treating others the way you want to be treated. Considering others' feelings when you act.
Families, please take some time to review the family connection.
In addition, each morning, we recite our core values and provide examples of how to be Respectful, Responsible, and Safe.
Thank you for your partnership and for being a role model to your students! ☀️
