Welcome to the 2026-2027 School Year, Suns!
We are so excited to welcome our students back for the first day of school! Our amazing teachers and staff have been working hard all summer to prepare for another incredible year at SHES. We can’t wait to welcome our students, build strong relationships, celebrate successes, and create a school year filled with learning, growth, and memorable moments.
Meet the Teacher Night will be on Tuesday, August 11th. Please see the flyer for times.
As we begin this new year together, please review the important first-week reminders and beginning-of-year procedures below. These guidelines will help ensure a smooth, safe, and successful start for our students, families, and staff.
As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the campus with any questions or concerns. We are here to support you and will do everything we can to help make the beginning of the year a positive experience for everyone.
We truly appreciate your patience, flexibility, and cooperation during these first few weeks. Thank you for partnering with us as we work together to make this a safe, successful, and joyful school year.
We can’t wait to see our Suns shine bright on the first day of school on August 13th! ☀️🌟
Warm regards,
Alejandra Valdez, Principal
Missy Owen, Assistant Principal
Morning Arrival: Doors open at 7:00 a.m. Parents may walk children to class on the first two days of school (Thursday, Aug. 13 – Friday, Aug. 14).
Please enter through the main entrance only.
All parents must exit the building by 7:29 a.m. so we can begin pledges and morning routines.
Use the main entrance parking lot. The teacher parking lot by the cafeteria is not available due to bus and car rider traffic.
Starting Monday, Aug. 17, parents will no longer be able to walk students to class. Staff will be available to assist students if needed.
Tardy Bell: Rings at 7:29 a.m. If arriving after this time, please park in front of the school, walk your student into the front office, and sign them in by writing your name, your student’s name, and their arrival time in the tardy binder.
Lunch Visitors: We respectfully ask parents and guardians to wait until August 24th to join us for lunch. The first weeks of school are our opportunity to set procedures for success throughout the school year.
Dismissal Delays: Car riders are dismissed at the front of the school. Expect longer lines the first few weeks of school. When picking up car riders, please have your car tag visible, remain in your vehicle, and follow the guidance of the staff on duty. Students will not be released to parents who walk up to the front office during dismissal. To help with the dismissal process and improve traffic flow, all cars should turn right at the school’s stop.
Walkers: Students who walk home will be dismissed through the outside door by the gym. Please have your walker tag visible when picking up. Walkers will be released once we have released the buses and the parking lot is clear at approximately 3:10 pm.
Buses: Drop-off may be delayed the first few days. Please ensure your student’s ID badge is attached to their backpack for SmartTAG scanning. You can track your child’s bus location in the SmartTAG app.
Registration: If you still need to complete registration for your child, please do so at the following link or by visiting the Student Enrollment Center (Building D) at 21003 Interstate 35, Kyle, TX 78640.
Medication Drop-Off: If you need to drop off medications, you can do so at Meet the Teacher Night. On the first day of school, we will ask you to wait in the library if needed. Assistance from the nurse will begin at 8:00 a.m.
Car/Walker Tags: Car riders or walker tags will be distributed at Meet the Teacher Night. If you are not able to attend, please visit the front office to pick one up.
Student IDs: Students who had photos taken last year will receive their IDs at Meet the Teacher Night. New students or those without an ID will receive one. IDs must be worn by all students while in the building and on the bus.
Please take the time to carefully read our Arrival and Dismissal Procedures.
Thank you for helping us keep our students and community safe and for your continuous support!
Car Riders Front Drop-Off: Drop-off in the front begins at 7:00 AM.
Do not leave students unattended, as supervision is unavailable before this time.
Please be courteous and do not skip in the line.
For safety reasons do not drop off your kids before the crosswalk
Students should be ready to unload when it is their turn.
Please stay off your cell phones as this can delay the line and cause a safety issue. It is also against Texas law.
Car Riders Cafeteria Drop-Off: The cafeteria parking lot is designated for staff parking and buses only.
You may drop off at the cafeteria after buses leave (around 7:10 am), using the designated drop-off line. We have to unload 6 buses and we want everyone to safe.
If you are in line early, please use the roundabout that goes to the side of the cafeteria so buses are not blocked.
Please remain in your vehicle and follow staff guidance.
For safety, students should load/unload from the passenger side of the vehicle.
Please stay off your cell phones as this can delay the line and cause a safety issue. It is also against Texas law.
Car Rider Pick-Up Line Guidelines:
Parents must remain in their vehicles at all times to keep the process running smoothly and safely.
For safety, students should load from the passenger side of the vehicle.
If you need to assist your child with their seatbelt, please pull forward to the "Buckle-Up Safe Zone" to do so.
To help with the dismissal process and improve traffic flow, all cars should turn right to exit the school. Please follow the guidance of the staff on duty.
Please stay off your cell phones as this can delay the line and cause a safety issue. It is also against Texas law.
Walkers Guidelines:
"Parent pick-up" walkers are dismissed through the outside gym door. Parents will be asked to show their walker tag when picking up. Students will be sent to the front office if the parent does not have their tag.
Walkers are released after buses leave and the parking lot clears (around 3:10 p.m.)
If parent walkers are not picked up by 3:20 p.m., the students will be sent to wait with the car riders and will be dismissed at the end of the car riders' dismissal.
All walkers (parent pick-up, independent, and Dacy Ln) need a parent's consent on file to walk home. Please stop by the front office if you need your student to be a walker.
Devices Protection Plan
All of our Suns qualify for the Device Protection Plan at $10.00. Please see the flyers for more information. You can purchase the Device Protection Plan at the following link.
Cellphones Procedures
Beginning in 2025, the state of Texas banned the student use of personal communication devices, including cell phones, earbuds, smartwatches, and other devices, during the school day.
In compliance with the law, Hays CISD enforces a bell-to-bell ban on the use of personal communication devices, prohibiting them during the instructional day. Devices must remain powered off and stored out of sight from the first bell to the final dismissal bell, including during lunch and passing periods. Please read the Hays CISD Cellphone Procedures and see the flyers below for our campus procedures in the event we confiscate a device.
We are looking for parent, community and business representatives to help serve on our Campus Leadership Team. The CLT plays an important role in making decisions about budgeting and helping to monitor the goals in the Campus Improvement Plan.
Community representatives are individuals that reside in our district, but do not have children attending our schools.
If interested in being nominated or to learn more about the role, please reach out to Principal Valdez at alejandra.valdez@hayscisd.net
