This program is sponsored by Hays Consolidated Independent School District (Hays CISD) and was formerly held at Texas State University. In-person training is always the best way to learn new music strategies as an ensemble. All participants will be required to fully participate during instruction (sing, conduct, move, answer questions, interact with others, etc.), and homework will be assigned each day. Sessions will not be recorded.
Faculty, Staff, and Location
The classes are taught by a world-class faculty including Dr. Mícheál Houlahan, Dr. Philip Tacka, Ms. Gaby Montoya-Stier and Dr. Daniel Arredondo. Learn more about them here.
Classes will be held at the Hays CISD Performing Arts Center at 979 Kohler’s Crossing in Kye, Tx 78640. The KCP was formerly held at Texas State University’s School of Music but has always been sponsored by Hays CISD.
Patty Moreno, Hays CISD Director of Fine Arts, is the administrator of the KCP. Nereida Romero handles KCP communications and special projects. Sylvia Ortega is the administrative assistant for the Director of Fine Arts. Email questions to kodalycertificationtexas@gmail.com.
Dates and Daily Schedule
The dates for the 2023 Kodály Certification Program (KCP) are July 3-15, 2023. Classes will start early each morning and last into the evening. Each day will have a 30-45 minute lunch break. Classes will not be held on July 4th, but will be held on Saturdays, July 8th and 15th. The Hays CISD Children’s Choir Camp will be held July 10 - 14, 2023 in conjunction with the KCP.
There will be a choir concert on July 15th and a closing ceremony. Details will be announced later. All participants are encouraged to wear school clothes or business casual for these events.

Non-refundable deposit of $100.00 required by June 1, 2023.
Any participant that completed some training in 2020 only took a partial course. The rest of those hours will have to be made-up at some point. Individual plans will be created as needed.
