Groups should come prepared to sing 2-3 pieces of music. The songs together should not exceed 10 minutes in length.
Choirs will be judged on interpretation of music, tone, technique, and musicianship by a panel of 3 concert adjudicators. (See rubrics below.)
Any performance accommodation needs (i.e. soloist microphones) must be made known upon registration and/or no later than 1 week before the contest.
The use of folk song arrangements, partner songs, rounds/canons is highly encouraged.
If using pop music, limit to one selection (i.e. it is one of the 2-3 pieces your group will be performing).
Using the PML (Prescribed Music Library – used in secondary choirs) is a music resource you can consider, but not required.
Accompaniment may be provided by:
1. a live accompanist (ideally), OR
2. an .mp3 file.
NOTE: NO CDs will be accepted. All participating choirs will be provided a Google Drive folder into which they will upload their digital accompaniment (.mp3) files (where applicable). If you have a CD for digital accompaniment, you would have to convert the tracks to .mp3 and upload them into the provided Google Drive.
Copyright Rules: Only original scores should be presented to the judges, unless documentation of a music purchase can be provided. The director should bring 3 copies with the measures numbered in each score. Unpublished music is welcome with the written permission of the composer. Vocal and accompaniment parts must be written in staff notation.
