About Chapa Choir

Chapa Choir History

The school name was given to the school in honor of Armando Chapa, long-time middle school principal, who began his career with Hays CISD as a special education counselor in 1974. He became principal of Hays Middle School (located in what is now the South Campus of HHS) in 1975, opened Kyle Middle School (now Wallace MS) in 1986, served as counselor, at Barton Middle School from 1992 until his retirement in 2004. The Choir program started off small in 2007 and since then has been under the direction of several talented directors such as Carlos Maldonado, Adrian Reyes, Adam Poyner & more.

About Mrs. Garcia

Mrs. García earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Studies from Texas State University with an emphasis in vocal and choral education in 2013. Before coming to Hays CISD, Mrs. García served as Director of Choirs at Burnet Middle School in Austin ISD. In her four years, she successfully re-established the choir program to compete at UIL Concert and Sight-reading and local choral festivals. In 2014, Mrs. Garcia was named Teacher of Promise by her administration for outstanding first year teacher progress. Additionally, Mrs. García has served as a judge for the Central Texas Children’s Choral Festival, as well as camp counselor for Texas State University’s annual Hays CISD Honor Choir Camp.

As a singer for majority of her life, Mrs. García is passionate about giving students the foundation for success in music as well as life. She has over fifteen years of choir and voice experience, she has been teaching middle school for six years. She believes that dedication in one’s own craft is contagious, thus, inspire others to pursue their goals wholeheartedly. 

Mrs. García was raised in San Antonio, Texas; member of Texas State University's Chorale, University Singers, and Women’s Chorus; and alumna of the Alpha Pi Chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon: International Professional Music Fraternity. Currently, Mrs. Garcia is in-progress to become a Kodály Specialist under the instruction of Drs. Michael Houlahan and Philip Taka. Furthermore, Mrs. Garcia holds active membership in the Texas Music Educators and Choral Directors Association's. She also runs contest tabulations for TMEA Region 18 Middle School Choirs.

Aside from teaching, Mrs. Garcia enjoys interior and web design, tv-shows, scrapbooking, and spending time with family, her three-year-old son, Aran, her friends, her dog, Lola, and her husband, Agustín, who is an Transfer Specialist for the College of Education at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.
