Ensembles

Beginner Band is where students begin their journey as musicians! Students learn the fundamentals of playing a band instrument, including proper technique, music reading, rhythm, tone production, and ensemble skills. Throughout the year, students build their confidence and musicianship while preparing to perform in concerts and special events. No previous musical experience is required!

Jazz Band is a specialty ensemble that introduces students to the unique world of jazz performance. Students explore jazz styles, improvisation, articulation, rhythm, and ensemble playing while learning music from a variety of jazz traditions. Jazz Band performs at concerts and special events throughout the year and gives students the opportunity to develop skills that are different from those used in a traditional band.

Concert Band is designed for students who have developed a foundation on their instrument and are ready to continue growing as musicians. Students strengthen their technique, tone, music reading, and ensemble skills while learning more challenging music. The Concert Band performs in concerts, UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation, festivals, and other events throughout the year. Students are expected to demonstrate preparation, responsibility, teamwork, and dedication.

Symphonic Band is an advanced performing ensemble for students who are ready to take their playing to the next level. Students continue developing their technical and musical abilities while performing challenging repertoire. The Symphonic Band performs in concerts, UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation, festivals, and other events throughout the year. Students are expected to demonstrate preparation, responsibility, teamwork, and dedication.

Wind Ensemble is the top performing band at Barton Middle School and is made up of our most advanced musicians. Students perform challenging repertoire while focusing on advanced technique, musical expression, ensemble performance, and leadership. The Wind Ensemble represents Barton Middle School at concerts, UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation, festivals, and other competitions throughout the year. Students are expected to demonstrate a high level of preparation, responsibility, musicianship, and commitment.
