So far this school year, our 4th grade GT kiddos have been busy! In Science, the students have been doing a lot of experiments, such as creating oobleck and determining which items dissolve in water to form a solution, versus which ones don’t, forming a mixture. One of their favorites so far has been one that we call “Balloon to the Moon!” The students got to do this experiment during our unit on forces. In this experiment, the students had to figure out how to get a balloon to move from the floor to the ceiling using a piece of fishing wire, a straw, and a balloon only. (The students were not allowed to move the balloon at all with their hands, so this took some major brainpower!) They also had a blast in Language Arts creating disguised turkeys with which they had to write a persuasive essay convincing the teachers that they were in fact, NOT turkeys. And, in Math they have been rocking multi step word problems. Finally, the students are working on passion projects during their Genius hour at least once a week during their daily WIN time. :) It’s been very exciting to watch them go through the process of choosing a topic, researching it, as well as what they want their finished product to be and to see them making it happen!
