Doctoral student in Education at Harvard University
"There is no such thing as neutral education." -Paolo Freire
I am a third-year doctoral student studying what we can do (programs, interventions) to help kids thrive, especially before they start to experience social, emotional, academic, or behavioral problems.
Because of the current political climate, I have increasingly focused on political barriers to implementing programs which support children's wellbeing. I am studying the parents' rights movement in education through both descriptive and experimental work. I am actively leading two studies which examine conservative opposition to social and emotional learning and the proclivity to censor schooling materials based on political affiliation.
In the past, I've supported randomized control trials of parenting interventions and housing assistance programs. I've conducted in-depth interviews to inform the design of new programming in both non-profits and government systems. I've also led quantitative and qualitative research on parents' involvement with their children at school and home.
My work has spanned various geographies (Peru, Ghana, urban and rural USA) and populations (low-income families, incarcerated parents, grassroots activists). I am committed to respecting the humanity and ideas of all individuals who participate in my research.
I am open to consulting and collaboration; see my Resume page for additional relevant skills.
