Scott Kirby is CEO of United Airlines, which operates the most comprehensive global route network among North American carriers and is now the largest airline in the world as measured by available seat miles.
He previously served as president from 2016 to 2020, overseeing operations, marketing, sales, alliances, network planning, and revenue management, and playing a key role in United’s cultural transformation and strategic growth. In December 2020, he was elected Chairman of the Star Alliance Chief Executive Board and also serves on the International Air Transport Association Board of Governors.
Prior to United, Scott was president of American Airlines from 2013 to 2016 and US Airways from 2006 to 2013, bringing more than three decades of airline industry leadership. He began his career at the Pentagon and in the technology sector and holds degrees from the U.S. Air Force Academy and George Washington University.
David C. Parkes is the Dean and George F. Colony Professor of Computer Science at the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS). Parkes founded the EconCS research group at SEAS, which conducts theoretical and experimental research at the intersection of economics and computer sciences, exploring artificial intelligence and algorithms for social and economic impact.
He has been elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Association for Computing Machinery, and the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence. Dean Parkes was the founding faculty co-director of the Harvard Data Science Initiative adn of the Harvard Business Analytics program, and was named a Harvard College Professor, a 5-year appointment that recognizes exemplary teaching.
Following his M.Eng. in Engineering and Computing Science from the University of Oxford, Parkes received a Thouron Award to study at the University of Pennsylvania, earning a Ph.D. in Computer and Information Science. He is the inventor or co-inventor on 17 patents.
