The Geochemistry of Olivine from Mid-Ocean Ridge Basalts

Position Description: This project is designed to use the geochemistry of olivine from mid-ocean ridge basalts to decipher the heterogeneity of mantle sources and processes beneath the global mid-ocean ridges. In the project, students will help pick olivine crystals from mid-ocean ridge basalts, make the olivine crystals into mounts for analysis, and analyze the chemical compositions of olivine crystals using the relevant instruments. The fundamental knowledge, basalt samples and lab training will be introduced and provided.
