Welcome to the EPS Short-Term Research Program! This is a program offered by the Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences (EPS), and provides opportunities to Harvard undergraduate students to get to know the department by being involved in the activities of various research groups. This program offers short-term employment opportunities, working with department faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. All interested and currently enrolled Harvard students are encouraged to apply (preference will be given to freshman and sophomore students).
The EPS short-term research program is on hiatus for summer 2025 and will return in summer 2026.

What is the experience like for students?
Previous student comments:
"This was a fun and rewarding experience! You get to meet so many members of the EPS community, and it's a great way to get into research and/or EPS without a major commitment. Even if you don't plan to study EPS, you can still get a lot out of it."
"If you're not sure whether you're a "good fit" for research... you are! My EPS short-term project was a fantastic introduction to scientific study. "
"It was so much fun! And a great, low-commitment way to get involved with research!!"
"It's true that no experience is necessary - I had none with respect to any part of the project and still got so much out of it. If you're trying to decide between programs, DO THIS ONE!"

For the summer 2024 program, there will be one four-week term: Monday, July 1 - Friday, July 26. Projects will be conducted either in-person or remotely. Harvard students who are enrolled for the fall 2024 semester are eligible to apply.
Besides the research itself, students will also have the opportunity to participate in department events, in order to build community and make connections. Upon completion of the program (as well as a pre-program and exit survey), all students will be paid a $1000 stipend.
